Tessa O'Sullivan

Title of work - Auricula
A tile produced using Colour Shaper®

How the Shapers were used:
Tessa paints on china and porcelain, as well as more conventionally on paper, so she is able to compare the use of Colour ShaperŪ on a variety of mediums.

When working on tiles Tessa comments,
"The glaze on a piece makes the surface slippery, the paint medium that I use (an oil) stays wet and removable until fired."

"The Colour ShaperŪ is an invaluable tool for china painting as marks thin or thick can be made by turning the shaper on each side."

Tessa has obviously learnt to capitalise on the flexibility of Colour ShaperŪ in this challenging art medium. Tessa also explains that, "Edges can be sharpened up, shaped, curved or straight. Texture can also be added by using the tip of the tool in various ways." If Tessa reads the July newsletter, she will also find out how changing the shape of the Colour ShaperŪ tip can also give her some exciting new textures for her work.

The tile that has won Tessa first prize this month was produced by painting the whole tile terracotta, then using Colour ShaperŪ to wipe out the pot, stem, leaves and petals. After this Tessa filled with a brush before the tile was fired.
