Joan Goldby from Carlisle

Title of work: Gone Away
Pastel on pastel board.

How Shapers were used:
Joan used the flat wide 11/2" firm decorator Colour Shaper to blend the background.

Then she took the no. 6 angle chisel firm to give a soft effect on the lose cover on the chair. To draw in the frets and strings of the guitar needed a really fine point so for this Joan used a no. 6 angle chisel firm and dragged the pastel in a straight line, wiping the tip after every string.

To apply the detail of the fret markers and the machine beads, Joan chose the soft taper point no. 2, rubbing some white pastel onto the tip and then applying it to the pastel board.

Finally the same shaper was then used to smudge the smoke from the cigarette and the tassels on the bottom of the cover.
